How do Search Engines work?

They are text-driven. Here, Googlebot crawls the whole page and takes an idea of what the page topic is and what it wants to represent.

  • Crawling– In this spider (a piece of software) or crawler follows a link from one page to another and indexes them as they come. Link do vary from one link to another. Crawlers vary from left to right and right to left and cover the whole page like a snapshot. Sometimes we notice that when a particular page does not exist, Google shows that page that is exactly a snapshot of that page and keeps it in their database.
  • Indexing— When a page is indexed, it is stored in a giant database that can later be retrieved. Indexing tries to find the word that best describes the page, and it is stored here according to the category that Google chooses according to your content. Indexing plays a vital role in SEO.
  • Processing- Whenever a search request comes, the search engine processes it and the search string is compared with indexed pages .now more than one page contains a search string, so relevancy calculation is done of each page in its index with the search string. The processing part calculates all factors and serves us the best result.
  • Relevancy– Algo-mechanism followed by search engines to display the web pages according to priority and I the relevancy Google check out more than 200 factors. Some factors are keyword density, links, or meta tags, met keywords, and content quality SMO. All we can improve is through Off-Page and On-page SEO. After content Off-Page, SEO plays an important role.
  • Retrieving- After searching in Google, that result is called retrieving. It is the last step of the Search engine.
  • There are multiple search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing, and all follow their search pattern to give us results in Google Algo "OLD is GOLD" rule is followed, and yahoo follows the traditional rule. Google keeps updating itself through multiple Algo and Updation like hummingbird, panda, pigeon, and penguin.
  • In Google, keyword plays a vital role in organic search traffic. For this, we have to choose the proper keyword, and in content, its density must be 3% to 7 %. Keywords and their density are major factors for your popularity. We should also use LSI (latent semantic index), and we should use keywords in a domain name, title, tag, page title, heading, subheading, the content of the page, anchor text, and in the alt tag because keyword and content both are primary things in SEO.

Links are two types –

  • Inbound link or Backlink- the link that comes to our website from another website is BacklinkBacklink, and it is very important for us.
  • An outbound link goes from our website to another website called an outbound link.

Both kinds of links are essential for us because search engines prioritize having a lot of backlinks from quality and relevant websites. Link from relevant websites counts more, and they give us link juice and show the popularity of our content. Do follow link is counted when a search result appears but no follow link doesn't give us link juice, so they don't affect our search presence. The higher relevancy of backlinks gives us a higher priority. So backlinks are too vital for us.

Like backlink anchor text is more important, when we give a link to a keyword, it becomes anchor text, which is important for us.

Page rank is calculated on behalf of this formula.

PR(A)=(1-d) + d( PR(t1)/c(t1) + ……+ PR(tn)/c(tn) )

Where,

d= 0.85

PR (A) = Page rank of page A

T1-tn= these are pages inside page A and links to it.

C (t1) = no. of outbound links to page t1.

So basically, SEO is categorized into two parts-

  1. ON Page SEO
  2. Off-Page SEO

On-page, consistent change is website coding and its design like Meta title and Meta description. At present, Meta, the keyword, is not crawled by Google. So we have to focus on the Meta title and Meta description. Design must be responsive and attractive. A heading tag must be used in it. Keywords must be placed in all content according to density. RSS (real simple syndication) and XML site map must be added to the better search result. All are criteria that come under on-page SEO.

Off-page SEO is done for getting backlinks and circular our content. Off-page SEO consists activity like social bookmarking submission, blog submission, blog commenting, blog bookmarking, article bookmarking, article submission, article commenting, PDF sharing, document sharing, image submission, video submission, directory submission, forum posting & commenting, yahoo answer, content curation, web2.0 and press release, etc.

Nowadays, SEM (Search Engine Marketing) is popular. SEM is a paid marketing that Google does through Google AdSense and Google Adword tool. SMO (Social Media Optimization) is also an effective way to get traffic. You can do it by paying and organic both. Social media plays a vital role in ranking, and Google counts it.

Off-page activity helps you get popularity, get traffic and help you to recognize as a brand. Off-page activity is as important as on-page activity. Both activities play an important role to get traffic and more rush to your website. Ping is also helpful activity if you create a new website so that ping will help you index. Google will know you through ping services.

Google's Restriction

Google doesn't crawl videos, flash, sounds, and JavaScript. Google only crawls HTML tags. On images, we should use alt tag and description so Google can know what it is, and we should avoid frame and JavaScript because Google doesn't crawl them. Alt tag and description are very required.

We must not follow black hat SEO because Google counts it as spam and block our website. Black hat activity is restricted because, in this, many links are created in a short period like we are buying links, so we should avoid it. Black hat doesn't follow Google guidelines, and it breaches Google norms.

Google loves creative and unique work. Fresh content will help you get a high rank that will help you get organic traffic. Quality and relative backlink give a boost to our website. SEO is an organic process to increase your rank and presence. So following all the above guidelines, we can achieve our target and prosper our business by getting organic traffic for our website.
